Effects of the great earthquake and tsunami

The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was severely damaged and produces leaks near its location. The waters are toxic and some of the plants are showing mutations. The death toll of the deadly tsunami is 15,891 (as of April 10, 2015) according to Japan's National Police Agency.

The earthquake shifted Earth on its axis of rotation and shortened the length of a day by a microsecond. The earthquake also produced a low-frequency rumble called infrasound, which traveled into space and was detected by the Goce satellite. Source: LiveScience
