A footage that was posted in YouTube, shows a mother trying to comb her daughter’s hair that was filled with white and green lice!

The video focuses on the comb filled with countless lice.

According to Dee Wright, a salon owner whose Hairforce business provides a “Lice Assassins”, the video was similar to some of the worst case she has seen and been.

"That looks heavy. We see infestations of that nature. "We've even seen people with nests. That's where you've got so many lice they're clumping together,” Dee said.

"They're a big ball of lice fighting each other for survival," she added.

Experts believe that the lice may have been there for so long and in such numbers, that they built nests in the girl's hair.

Head lice are parasitic wingless insects. They can be incredibly itchy. Every time a person scratches his/her head, the scalp can be seriously damaged.

They are also known as pediculosis capitis, are tiny insects that live in human hair, which grow to the size of a sesame seed.

“They [infestations] are very common in the UK and in Europe, but not to this level. I work in forensic sciences and these types of cases are found in cases of neglect of children or the elderly. You also see it in cases of homeless people,” Dr. Alejandra Perotti said a lecturer at the University of Reading’s School of Biological Sciences.

Head lice are extremely contagious. Close contact or sharing personal belongings, such as hats or hairbrushes, puts people at risk. Children ages 3-11 and their families get head lice most often.

“So you have to cut the hair very short so the female lice don’t lay eggs. Even if the child gets treatment, they will still get lice for about a year, as the old nits become visible,” said Dr. Perotti

If left untreated, they can multiple extremely quickly, due to the female being able to lay up to 10 eggs a day throughout her 30-day lifespan.

The eggs, called nits, are even smaller – about the size of a knot in thread. Lice and nits are easiest to detect at the neckline and behind the ears. When you feel you have these parasites on your head or body, consult a doctor.

Matthew Gass a member of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD )said that the infestation was an extremely severe case of head lice.

"Parents should remember that young children are particularly vulnerable to outbreaks but that quick intervention can prevent anything on this scale," he said.

British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) state that there are two main ways to get rid of head lice, including chemical solutions that kill the insects and physical methods such as repeated combing.
