Why are skinny jeans bad for your health?

According to the doctors, the woman's legs had swelled up so bad and those ankles had become so weak that she couldn't walk. She was hospitalized for several days because her skinny jeans cut off the body supply of her legs.

The woman experienced muscle damage, swelling and nerve blockages in her legs after squatting for several hours while wearing her skinny jeans.

As the lady was doing all of the squatting, the muscles started to get damaged, and it started to swell up,
said Dr. Michelle McDonnell with the University of South Australia

They had to cut off her pants to remove them from her bloated legs.

As it was by this time dark and late in the day, no one noticed her fall and she was lying there for some time – several hours,
said Dr. Thomas Kimber, consultant neurologist at the University of Adelaide.

I think it’s the non-stretchy nature of jeans that might be the problem,
added Dr. Kimber.

This was the first report case of skinny jeans causing someone to be hospitalized.

The woman's case was documented as a part of a study in the journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry.

According to the case study that was released, the woman had
damaged muscle and nerve fibers in her lower legs as a result of prolonged compression while squatting, which her tight jeans had made worse, the doctors suggest.

Doctors and experts have warned women who wear skinny jeans could be at risk of suffering 'compartment syndrome', damage to nerves and muscles in the calves caused by the tight jeans.

It turns out that she had been helping a friend move and she had been squatting in skinny jeans.

After being treated for days the woman had left the hospital still had some weakness in her ankle and foot and later made a fully recovery.
