Pacquiao-Algieri match watched by 48 million homes in China

The "Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri" broadcast from Macau, China was viewed by 48 million homes throughout the People's Republic, according to top promoter Bob Arum.

Manny Pacquiao knocked down Chris Algieri six times,
easily defending his WBO welterweight title.

“It was a huge success. Forty-eight million homes watched it,” Arum said via the “That’s effectively over half the population of the UK. Boxing is becoming a major sport in China. I want to build the audience as much as possible before we even think about pay-per-view.”

Even in a country that boasts a gross population of 1.35 billion, the Top Rank CEO is still delighted over the results.

Pacquiao’s defence of his World Boxing Organisation welterweight crown last November gave him a landslide 12 round decision against the American Chris Algieri - 119-103, 119-103, 120-102 drew the massive audience from China.

Considering that the high cost of PPV in America and increased number of events seemed to dampen the US marketplace in 2014, with every major boxing PPV performing well under projected figures this year, an additional market for the global sport would be a welcomed commodity for Top Rank, Inc.

Now the question is, will the Chinese PPV market be established in time for a monumental Mayweather/Pacquiao super fight?
